TLC collaborates with a number of NGOs such as Love Trust, Joint Aid Management(JAM) and Cotlands that have strategically aligned their vision to the development of ECD practitioners in their own organisations and their local communities. They have also shown a commitment to setting up ECD centres in informal settlements and rural areas where there is a need for these facilities.

Teachers Learning Centre (TLC) has partnered with JAM South Africa in the last two years to provide training in the National certificate in ECD; Level 4, for 19 ECD practitioners from informal settlements. We are looking forward to seeing the first group of students graduating in August this year and our second intake have started with us in April 2015.

Love Trust is a Christian organisation with its purpose being ‘provide quality Christian education to vulnerable children’. We focus on schools, ECD’s and training ECD teachers. From a teacher training perspective we partnered with TLC as they have invested in an SAQA accredited ECD teacher training course. Jointly we can achieve much more so it just makes sense for us working together, and therefore can make a broader impact in ECD.
  • Cotlands

national-certificate-level-4-early-childhood-development-qualification-tlc Cotlands was enrolled into the TLC family in 2013. The partnership has since yielded 8 master trainers and over 20 students enlisted to complete their NQ Level 4 ECD training.

"Choosing the TLC program for us was a no brainer . It is an accredited ECD programme that afforded us the flexibility to train our staff at a pace that enabled them to grasp the material fully" -Mealang Van Heerden Cotlands Programme Manager and TLC accredited master trainer.

The TLC trained master trainers have been equipped to retrain Cotlands Early Learning Facilitators (ELFs). Each ELF facilitates 2 early learning playgroups of 20 – 25 children twice a week. The free early learning playgroups are situated in under-resourced communities and are targeted at children who are not receiving any early childhood development services. Every Friday the ELF's meet at their regional offices where they are trained and tested by the master trainers.

The TLC model which is broken into easy to understand models allows the ELF's to learn at their own pace.

"In addition, TLC offers Cotlands on-going support and their genuine willingness to help, makes them one of our most valued partners," added Mealang.

We would like to challenge other organisations and financial institutions who have learnerships or ECD centres to also join with us in enabling ECD practitioners to make a significant difference in the future generations of young South Africans.

  • JAM

national-certificate-level-4-early-childhood-development-qualification-tlc Joint Aid Management (JAM) is a proudly South African humanitarian organisation that provides sustainable programmes in impoverished areas throughout Southern Africa.

Realising the importance of Early Childhood Development in South Africa, JAM South Africa has brought holistic ECD programme to ECD centres located in informal settlements and villages. JAM South Africa not only focuses on food and nutrition to 1203 Child-Care centre where 62800 pre-school children are fed but they have also been involved in security for the ECD centres, water drilling as well as ECD centre makeovers.

The learners have been attending classes once a week at our Mulbarton branch and their dedication and commitment to the learning and making a difference in their ECD centres has been exemplary.

We are also privileged to be one of the stakeholders involved with JAM South Africa in a partnership model to establish a Community Support Centre in Orange Farm. This centre will have three components; an agricultural centre, an early childhood Development (ECD) centre and an after care centre. Hopefully this model will be replicated in other parts of the country to promote sustainability in informal settlements.
